Winner of the 2012 HSMAI Gold Adrian Award

Canadian Tourism Commission worked with NBC to create a tourism campaign to run in NYC to show Americans that humour is a big part of what Canada is about. Eric McCormick was the spokesperson for the campaign and the TV spots were heavily supported by social media – mainly Twitter. The hasthag @CanadaForFun was created and employed and daily posts, weekly quizzes and jokes were created under the handle @Canadaforfun. Content ran on sites like YouTube, Funny or Die, NBC and CTC and partner sites. The campaign ran for 4 weeks and was a great success. My role was to develop content strategy, create weekly editorial calendars to be used by Canadian Tourism and it’s partners (Ontario Tourism, Ottawa Tourism, Niagara Tourism) on their Facebook and Twitter accounts. I wrote all the tweets and Facebook posts for suggested use by partners as well as writing the daily Twitter content. At the end of the campaign, we invited tourism bloggers “BeersandBeans” to come to Ontario to explore Toronto, Niagara and Ottawa over the course of 3 days. I tweeted to suggest places, events and activities to try in each city and encouraged followers to make suggestions of their own. The campaign was a great success and we look forward to running a similar campaign soon.
